But if you find the right producer, you can still taste something fantastic in the region that doesn't break the bank. Ciabot Berton is a relatively small winery run by brother-and-sister team of Marco and Paola Oberto. They make this wine from a number of vineyards in the celebrated La Morra commune and age it in oak for two years. It's elegant and full-bodied, with aromas of roses, truffle, blackcurrant and cinnamon. Try it with venison stew.
